MXHI Time Dependence

Time Dependent Trends in NEWSIPS High Dispersion Spectra

This page provides links to several figures which demonstrate the time dependent effects present in NEWSIPS SWP high dispersion extracted spectra (MXHI files).

The same effect is also seen in red stars, such as Capella. Compare a spectrum obtained early in the mission, such as SWP13756, to one obtained much later, such as SWP49167. Not only has the level of the continuum changed, but the effects of the ripple are also apparent in the later spectrum. Again, these are most likely a result of changes in the calculated background level.
