MXHI Time Dependence
Time Dependent Trends in NEWSIPS High Dispersion Spectra
This page provides links to several figures which demonstrate the time
dependent effects present in NEWSIPS SWP high dispersion extracted spectra
(MXHI files).
- Grey scale plot of time dependence
in tau Sco spectra at short wavelengths.
- Grey scale plot of time dependence
in tau Sco spectra at intermediate wavelengths.
- Grey scale plot of time dependence
in tau Sco spectra at long wavelengths.
- Ratios of 10 spectra obtained
near the end of the mission to 10 obtained toward the beginning for
tau Sco and zeta Cas.
- Comparison of the ratios of 10
spectra obtained near the end of the mission to 10 obtained toward the
beginning for eta UMa using NEWSIPS and IUESIPS extractions.
The same effect is also seen in red stars, such as Capella.
Compare a spectrum obtained early in the mission, such as
SWP13756,
to one obtained much later, such as
SWP49167. Not only
has the level of the continuum changed, but the effects of the ripple
are also apparent in the later spectrum. Again, these are most likely
a result of changes in the calculated background level.
